Aftermarket in-car entertainment system miscommunications.

miscommunication diagram

Common miscommunications when researching Aftermarket Head Units.

Searching for, Buying and Installing aftermarket head units is quite a grey area, with many different qualities in the systems, support and advice that suppliers can offer and more. We try to be as transparent and forthcoming as possible, but sometimes it's hard to get all of the information across to you, the consumer.

We have compiled a list of some of the most asked questions and misconceptions about our systems and our business as possible, and are going to answer them in this blog.

We try our hardest to answer all the questions that circulate on the internet about our products, our business model, and why you should deal with us, as opposed to other suppliers.

#1
ANDROID AND APPLE CAR PLAY

A lot of questions usually come up when people see our systems whether that's an advert on Facebook, Word of mouth, or on eBay and such, and this miscommunication is when people see Android in the title, some think they cant get a system from because they have an Apple Phone.

However this couldn't be further from the truth,

Android in the title of our products simply means that the system uses Android as the Operating System, this is usually Android 10.0 and 11.0. This doesn't mean they're only compatible with Android Phones, iPhone works just fine on these systems whether you're using Bluetooth, Mirror link, Wi-Fi, Hot-spot, Tethering and Music steaming (Technical name is A2DP)

With even more compatibility on CarPlay upgraded systems, the system will use some specific applications off your phone and transfer them to the radio we have installed!

YOU CAN FIND THEM CHEAPER ON ALI-EXPRESS

We often get people asking us what the difference between our systems and the systems they see on Ali-Express are. While you can find a similar system to ours on Ali-Express, we sell our systems for a higher price. Why is this?

A lot of customers come to us after they've already had their hands burned by Ali-Express systems, which is why we try and stress the value of our warranty, which keeps you safe from defective units and bad aftersales advice.

Simply put, we only sell products in which we have the utmost faith in, that we have had experience with in the past, and that we know how to get working. When a system we have sold has an issue and needs to be sent back to the manufacturer, we lose money. This means we're limited to selling products which we believe will survive beyond our two-year warranty, only needing the lifetime support we offer in around 5-6 years.

It's a strange business as after the installation of our system we don't want to see you again, if we see you again it means there's an issue, it's not a personal thing …

IT'S HARD TO FIND SOMEONE TO INSTALL THE SYSTEM

Here at Iceboxauto, we offer installation on all the systems we sell on our website, but if you live too far away, how are you going to be able to reliably order and install the system?

We're currently building a network of Auto-Electricians who are capable of installing these systems, we offer them advice before, during and after the installation.

This ranges from installation of the unit itself and post-installation system setup. So if you have a local auto-electrician who you believe can install one of our systems, you can refer them to us, and we can run them through the installation of your system.

#4
ICEBOXAUTO SEND THE SYSTEMS STRAIGHT TO YOU

This is far from the truth, before we send you your system we do several checks, such as ensuring the quality of the system, making sure that the system works and is in order, plus any extras you have asked for have to be placed into the box alongside the system after our checks.

We try our hardest to get the systems shipped out to you ASAP, but on some occasions, it's difficult, as we get two shipments a week, we try and encourage people to place their orders at the start of the workweek, as it's more likely that we'll get your system to ourselves, and out to you faster.

We ask everyone waiting for order updates to email their order number to admin@iceboxauto.com so that we can address any delays or issues with shipping, or just give you a general update on where your package is and when it's expected to be with your, so you can plan around the retrieval of the system.

#5
I WANT DAB+ RADIO, DO I GET THE EXTRA DAB+ OR NOT?

We have the optional extra DAB+ in our store, but we don't advise that you order it from us … which is strange, here at Iceboxauto, we try not to upsell items and extras, instead, we suggest that you run the DAB+ Radio from the system itself using one you can download from the Play Store. The extra DAB+ is mainly for cars that don't have access to this feature or support DAB+ in the original version.

#6
IT'S HARD TO INSTALL THESE SYSTEMS

Generally, we advise people to get an auto-electrician to fit these systems as it can be difficult for an inexperienced person to install the systems, not because they're complicated, require soldering, or have insane troubleshooting, but mainly because it's hard to pull apart the dash of the car. A lot of people feel uncomfortable removing the trim and dash of their car to install these systems, and some cars are more of an issue to do this with than others.

However, the systems are plug-and-play, meaning that once they're in, they're in, and are not going to need a huge amount of troubleshooting to get fully functioning. We offer advice to anyone who is installing the system themselves, it can even be fun, similar to building a computer the wires only have one place to go.

In conclusion, we're dedicated to answering questions, helping you figure out how to order from us, why it's worth ordering from us, and some of the main issues you may come across while searching for units for your car

Interesting post, considering I've seen the opposite of everything this blog post is touting.  Pretty bad when you have to beg a company to take your money, cannot get clear-cut instructions on how to install a device on your particular vehicle (especially for a company boasting it's been in business for more than 13 years...if you've been doing this that long, shouldn't you have these resources readily available for those people (i.e., me) ready to drop $1,500+ on upgrades?), and other matters.  Doesn't bode well for doing future business.
